About the Department

Established in 1964 as an all-volunteer fire department, the department has recognized and kept up with community changes and needs to grow to where it is now. The department is now led by a paid, full-time chief, 3 full-time/part-time firefighters per shift (24 hour shifts), supplemented by 11 volunteer and reserve members. We operate out of two stations serving close to 40 square miles of a combination of suburban, industrial and rural areas. We staff at minimum a rescue engine out of our headquarters station 24/7 with other staffed unites being added as needed for special events or inclement weather.

Why New Prospect Fire Department?

Our community is one of the fastest growing communities in Spartanburg County along with the Inman and Boiling Springs area. Situated where we are in the county, we have to adapt to being able to be versatile in all aspects of fire and rescue, all while doing so with minimal staffing. We offer complete on the job training through the South Carolina Fire Academy although it is preferred to have someone that is already certified.

Just in the past 10 years our department has grown from all volunteer to a paid and 24 hour staffed department. We have plans to build a 3rd station along with adding additional staff at both headquarters and our existing substation. With new and modern equipment, we have 4 engine companies, 2 mini-rescue (squad) companies, a tanker, 2 brush trucks, and 1 ATV. Our department can only progress forward most likely at a very fast pace, as the area around us continues to grow.
