About the Department

Dorchester County Fire Rescue is a combination fire department with approximately 80 paid members and 85 volunteer members. We have five (5) fully-staffed stations in our East Battalion, with 3-person Engine Companies, and three (3) partially staffed stations in our West Battalion with single-person Engines augmented with part-time firefighters and volunteer members. We have nine (9) fire stations that are staffed solely by volunteer members and a Battalion Chief on duty in each of the Battalions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We respond to over 4,000 calls of service each year from brush, vehicle, and structure fires to motor vehicle accidents, hazardous materials spills, and medical calls.

Why Dorchester County Fire Rescue?

Even though our department has only been around since 2013, the history of the fire departments that make up our county-wide department now dates back to the late 1800s. Our department recognizes the importance of our volunteer members, as they are an integral part of our overall mission and will be for many years to come. We are a growing department and are very progressive in our thinking and we still rely very heavily on input and ideas from our membership. Our motto is “One County, One Mission” and it exemplifies our ideals that every member of the department is important to our success, regardless of their level of training, time on the department, or rank they may hold. We are always looking for good, responsible, hard-working people to continue the volunteer tradition that makes our department so successful.
