About the Department

Poplar Springs Fire Department is a growing combination department in the Southwest corner of Spartanburg County with three stations, two of which are mainly operated with Volunteer staff. We provide staffing of three personnel 24/7, three Part Time employees 9-6 and 15 active volunteers. The District is rapidly growing with the addition of many industrial complexes, a business park and housing units.

Why Poplar Springs Fire Department?

Our department has always striven to maintain our identity as a combination department by keeping focus on our volunteer recruitment and our training efforts. In the past three years we have been able to attract many young men and women to become volunteers by focusing on engaging them, keeping it interesting, fun, safe and a place where they feel welcomed and supported. We do not have a live in program, but we have made accommodations so that this group has a place to sleep if they want to stay overnight and feel more a part of the team. In years past we had an explorer post, but felt that we could reach more young people and be more independent if we began a Junior Program. We did this about two years ago and we have benefited with four new volunteers.

Why Poplar Springs-We welcome everyone and treat each person as we would want to be treated and we continuously strive to maintain the feel of a combination department that values the volunteer as much as the paid.
