About the Department

The Glassy Mountain Fire Department was founded in 1988 as a volunteer organization to provide basic fire protection and emergency medical response within 52 square miles in northern Greenville County. In the past thirty years, the department has grown to a combination fire agency with career staff, volunteers and cadets all working to provide superior fire and Advanced Level Support Emergency Medical Services to a population of roughly 8,000 people.

Why Glassy Mountain Fire Department?

Joining our team will initiate a life-long, rewarding experience. Whether serving as a volunteer firefighter, rescue or emergency medical technician, cadet, or auxiliary member, few opportunities can provide the sense of pride that comes from knowing you are making a difference in the lives of others – something we experience every day!

Volunteers are provided uniforms, training and protective equipment at NO COST and even receive monetary incentives for joining, reaching training goals, active participation and stipends for response to fire and other significant calls. Volunteers can be as young as 16 and there is no maximum age as long as you are in good physical health and can pass a comprehensive firefighter physical exam.

The GMFD offers a wide range of jobs with a high level of job-satisfaction. All you need to do is provide the time. If you want challenging work that provides something meaningful to your family, friends and neighbors, come join us!

Other Benefits:

  • We have an extensive Paid on Call and Recruitment and Retention Incentive Program that allows for stipends and paid incentives for completing training goals, attending scheduled training, returning to calls, and providing On Call coverage.
